VISUAL ARTS @ RED ROCK

Are you a painter, collage artist, photographer, or visual artist? If your art is adventurous, fun, and out of the ordinary, we would love to show your work at Red Rock.

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

While we encourage art of many styles, disciplines, and levels of expertise, here are a few guidelines to help you in answering the question 'does my artwork fit at Red Rock?'

-Easy on the nature photography.
If you are a nature or landscape photographer, is your work shot in a unique manner, or does it have a singular voice or edge to it? Some nature work is breathtaking. Much of it is, well, pictures of trees.

-What would look good in Red Rock?
The Red Rock interior is a brash combination of barn reds, browns, cream, and even teal (go sharks). As such, the walls of Red Rock don't function like a normal neutral gallery wall. We like to create a unified experience at Red Rock by picking artwork that shows well in our very red environment.

-Will I sell stuff?
Art purchases at Red Rock are usually around the $100 price point. Currently we do not take a percentage of art sales, although you are of course always welcome to make a donation to the cafe. If you are serious about selling your work, but your stuff is more than $100, consider your show at Red Rock to be a fun exposure to a new audience, not a sales opportunity. After all, you didn't get into painting for the money, now did you?

-Easy on the nudes.
We love families at Red Rock, that's why we do a Kids' Story Hour twice a month, and do our Kids' Art Studio. Don't make the parents of Mountain View explain why there's a naked man on the wall of the place where they get their chocolate milk. If your nude work is abstract and beautiful, bring it on!

-As Axel Rose said so brilliantly...patience.
We have hundreds of requests a year for art shows and installations. Please be patient as we take a while to get back to you.

-I am brilliant, but broke!
If you have extraordinary work but can't afford to get it framed, mounted, etc., we may be able to help you get it show-ready using a small slice of our tiny arts budget. If you have needs as such, please note them in your e-mail to Kevin.

-Art is subjective, why all the guidelines?
